XTERRA began in 1996 on the island of Maui, Hawaii. This competition is currently present in 20 countries around the world. XTERRA means ‘Unknown Territory’, coming from the joining together of the meanings of X (something unknown) and TERRA (Earth). In San Juan, the event will bring together four races during the same weekend: one which is purely Mountain Bike (50 km), another which is Trail Running (5k, 10k, 21k), another which is open-water swimming, and a Triathlon (1.5k swimming + 30k MTB + 9.5k Trail Running). The participants may take part in any of them, independently, or participate in more than one if they wish.
Also, children will have the possibility of participating in the Kids Race, which makes it an ideal event for the entire family.
The main event, the Triathlon, will award 30 spots, between professional and amateur athletes, for the 2016 World competition to be disputed in Maui, Hawaii. There will also be important cash prizes.
